September 3, the anniversary of the birthday of Al-Biruni, as the Surveying Engineering Day in Iran
September 3, the anniversary of the birthday of Al-Biruni the great scientist in engineering sciences is named as the Surveying Engineering Day in Iran.
Al-Biruni the great Iranian scientist, had accomplished various and precious endeavors in surveying engineering and astronomy and it is a great honor that his scientific achievements are still credible in the world after many centuries.
The Iranian Society of Engineers honors and commemorate this day with the aim to promote all aspects of surveying engineering while identifying different applications of surveying engineering in activities of other engineering fields and sciences and also in people's daily life.
Surveying engineering has a long history. For the first time, surveying techniques were used to divide lands, and throughout history, surveyors have played a vital role in shaping and developing civilizations and have accompanied different experts of other fields and sciences in discovering the unknowns of the earth and space.
Today, surveying engineering and spatial information are not limited to just civil engineering fields, but also in other sections such as land use planning, environment, urban development and urban planning, e-government development, mining, agriculture, forests and pastures, dam constructions, sea, land, air navigation, crisis management and many other applications.
This industry is evolving every day and preparing us for a new and prosperous world.
I know it my duty to express my gratitude to the surveying engineers and to congratulate this great occasion to these front line activists of the construction and the educated society of surveying engineering.
