According to the NCC report, Atieh Mojtahedi, Deputy of Hydrography and Tidal Affairs Department of NCC, announced the registration of 48 INT Charts and the publication of 93 Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC) internationally from the ROPME sea area, including the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, which led to The Islamic Republic of Iran’s first rank among the countries of the region, “To coordinate the production and publication of international nautical charts and in accordance with Section A of the international charts and Chart Specifications of the IHO (S-4), Fifteen Regional Commissions have been established in which Iran, along with Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, is located in I Region or the ROPME sea area. This commission operates under the name of ROPME Sea Area Hydrographic Commission (RSAHC), the position of which and other regional commissions can be seen in the figure below.”

ROPME Sea Area Hydrographic Commission (RSAHC) started its activities in 2000 in Tehran within the framework of the programs of IHO. In addition to developing the International Charts and coordinated publication of Electronic Navigational Charts (ENC), one of the main activities of this commission is to coordinate the countries of the region to ensure maritime safety.

Mojtahedi added: “According to the statistics published by the International Hydrographic Organization, the number of INT Charts and Electronic Navigational Charts produced by each of the member countries of ROPME Sea Area Hydrographic Commission (RSAHC) are according to the table and chart below. This statistic shows that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a leader in producing and publishing international charts in ROPME Sea Area compared to other member countries.”

Deputy of Hydrography and Tidal Affairs Department of NCC also stated: “Although hydrographic operations and production of nautical charts has started in Iran since 40 years ago, the international publication of these charts has started since 2015 and so far 48 of the charts have been registered in the list of international charts and 93 Electronic Navigational Charts have also been published at an international level and have been provided to sailors, of which 62 charts are produced by National Cartographic Center of Iran. According to these statistics, Oman and Pakistan are in this ranking after Iran, and Bahrain and Kuwait are in the next ranks. Since hydrographic operations and production of nautical charts from the waters of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates is done by the United Kingdom, the international charts are not registered in the above-mentioned countries and these countries continue to use the charts produced by the British Hydrographic Service.”
